Classic Beauty Trends

Styles in beauty and makeup are constantly evolving and changing, which means that they can also date quickly.

Nothing screams the seventies like pale blue eyeshadow; while heavily glossed lips were very fashion forward in the eighties.

However, there are some classic beauty trends, that never seem to go out of style.

3 Classic Beauty Trends

1 – Natural Makeup

Why is it a classic beauty trend? Maybe because a natural makeup helps to smooth your complexion, evens out your skin tone, minimises any flaws, and gives you an attractive, healthy glow!

2 – A Red Lip

Nothing takes your look from blah to hoorah, like a red lip – just ask Gwen Stefani!

So make sure you have a red that suits your complexion, in your lipstick wardrobe. If you have a cool skin tone, look for a bluey-red lipstick, while warmer skin tones suit a warmer red with a hint of orange.

3 – Smoky Eyes

Kohl eyeliner is the first product you should reach for when creating a smoky eye look, and you can’t get much more classic than that! Kohl has been used to enhance eyes since the time of the ancient Egyptians.

If you would like help with creating any of these classic beauty trends, or need a special occasion makeup (eg bridal or formal), let’s chat!

Blushing Beauty At Any Age

Blush, blusher, rouge, bronzer, cheek tint: whatever you want to call it, it has been one of the most popular cosmetics throughout the ages.

Just by using blusher, you look more radiant as it gives your face a soft, healthy glow.

Blushing Beauty All Day Long

If you want your blush to last all day long, here are some of the secrets I have learned as a professional makeup artist:

  1. Prepare the canvas of your face with primer and foundation. These will not only help to smooth your complexion, but also give your blusher something to cling to.
  2. Just add colour – whether you brush on a powder, or apply a cream with your finger tips, start with a smile (good advice anytime really!). Then apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks, starting from underneath the middle of your eye, out and upwards towards your temples and hairline.
  3. Blend, blend, blend!
  4. Apply translucent powder, to help fix the colour and foundation.
  5. You may like to apply a dusting of highlighter to your cheekbones if you would like to emphasise them.
  6. Finish with a hydrating spray which again, helps set your makeup for long lasting results.

A Healthy Glow

The whole point of using blusher is to create a healthy glow – and yet it can actually have an adverse affect on your wellbeing!

Back in Elizabethan England, for example, blushers consisted of toxic ingredients such as lead, mercury, and arsenic. Although blusher has come a long way since then, it still pays to be careful about which blush you choose.

That’s why I recommend and stock Jane Iredale makeup, as it provides long lasting results that are actually good for your skin. When it comes to blush, the range includes loose and pressed mineral powders, sticks and creams, bronzers and highlighters – something to suit you, no matter what your skin type or age.

I would love to help you become a “blushing beauty” – so call or SMS 0404 845 133 or fill out the contact form today.

Tips to Make Lipstick Stay on Longer

As a beauty therapist and makeup artist, one of the most common questions I am asked is how to make lipstick stay on longer.

make lipstick stay on longer

For best results, I suggest the following:

  • Exfoliate your Lips – If you’ve had a facial with me, you will know that I apply a sugar scrub to exfoliate your lips. This is something you can also do at home, before applying makeup, to help your lipstick to stay on longer.
  • Prime your Lips with Foundation – When you are applying foundation and/or powder, make sure you do your lips as well as the rest of your face.
  • Take your Time – Allow time between each step of applying your makeup, so it can settle. You might like to put on some perfume, or brush your hair, between each step of applying your lipstick, for a longer lasting effect.
  • Use a Lipliner – Particularly as we grow older, lipliner not only outlines our lips, it also stops our lipstick bleeding. Choose one that is the same colour as, or only slightly darker, than your lipstick – after outlining, use it to colour in your lips.
  • Choose your Lipstick Carefully – Matte lipsticks are generally the most long wearing – however for a gloss finish, have you tried the Jane Iredale Lip Fixation? Fabulously long lasting – first apply the lip stain, and then finish with the lip gloss. One client went to an awards night and was thrilled at how her lipstick lasted through drinks and dinner, and still looked shiny near the end of the night!

  • Apply your Lipstick –  Remember that it’s better to do a couple of thinner layers, than one thick one. Blot with tissue paper, and apply translucent powder over the top. Repeat.
  • Set your Makeup – I like to use a Jane Iredale hydration spray for the finishing touch.

And now for a free bonus tip for clients of my Redlands beauty salon: apply a little highlighter to the skin just above your cupid’s bow – it may not make your lipstick stay on longer, but it will add real definition and wow factor!

Wedding Makeup

wedding makeup ThornlandsAttention brides to be …

It’s a big decision.

You’ll look back on it for many years to come, so you want to get it right.

And no, we’re not just talking about choosing your groom – we’re talking about your wedding makeup!

Tips for Beautiful Brides

On your wedding day, there are a lot of things you want your makeup to achieve. Ideally, the perfect wedding makeup will:

  • highlight your own beauty on your wedding day – nothing too over the top;
  • capture that radiant bridal glow;
  • look great in photos; and
  • last all day.

It’s a tall order! And while normally you may be confident to do your makeup yourself – what if the wedding nerves set in? It’s hard to apply makeup properly with a shaky hand!

Makeup Trends for Special Occasions

makeup trends for special occasionsWith formal season in full swing, and Christmas parties and other festive occasions just around the corner, now is a great time to try out some of the big makeup trends to see how they work for you!

  • Brow Pencil – Have you tried wearing pencil on your brows yet? Brow pencil is a great way to bring a bit of shape and definition to your brows – and a sleek brow helps to frame your whole face.
  • Highlight your Eyes – Applying a teensy bit of highlighter to the inner corner of your eye, has the same effect as being in candlelight – flattering for every woman, especially if you’ve reached an age where you look better in soft focus!
  • Winged Eyeliner – This look can take a bit of practice, it’s true, but is well worth the effort especially if you want to up the glamour factor!
  • Mascara – The latest look is to wear mascara on your lower, as well as your upper lashes. Apply vertically with just the tip of your mascara wand, instead of the horizontal position you would use for your upper lashes.
  • Bold Lip – Just in case you thought it was all about the eyes, a bold lip will also help to bring your look up to the minute. If it’s not something you’ve tried before, ease yourself into it by dabbing your finger on the tip of your lippie and then touching your finger to your lips, for a stain effect. As you try this over a couple of weeks, you will become more used to seeing colour and will be able to gradually go brighter and bolder.

And of course, if you’re not confident that you can make any of these makeup trends work for you – especially if you have a wedding, formal or other important occasion coming up – you can always make an appointment to see Jean for professional makeup tips, advice and application! Find out more – including prices – on the Jaibe Beauty Makeup webpage.
