A Superfood Facial

We’ve all heard the buzz about “superfoods” like beetroot, kale, blueberries, spinach and pomegranate, and how beneficial they can be when we include them as part of a healthy diet.

But did you know that these superfoods are also incredibly effective when applied to your skin?!

This summer you can treat your skin to superfood therapy at our Thornlands Beauty Salon, thanks to the new seasonal facial from Waterlily, the Superfood Smoothie Spa Facial.

The Power of the Superfood Facial

The superfood ingredients have all been carefully chosen for being rich in antioxidants, which slow down the ageing process and prevent the free radicals which damage the skin.

And they are also prized for their anti-inflammatory properties – the ability to soften and soothe your skin.

Superfood Facial Benefits

Beetroot for example, is known to promote a wrinkle-free complexion, help remove dead cells, and to reduce age spots and dark circles in the under eye area.

Kale is not only a cleanser, it boosts collagen production, vital for repairing and plumping the tissues under your skin, giving it a more youthful appearance. High in Vitamin A, it also reduces swelling and scars.

Many members of the berry family fall into the superfood category – blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, goji berries. When applied to the skin, they balance the levels of oil, fight blemishes, and help even out skin tone.

So now you know – superfoods are great to eat, and great to use in skincare and facials!

Come and try it for yourself at Jaibe Beauty Thornlands this summer – I’d love to see you. Call or text me on 0404 845 133 for an appointment.

Preventing Windburn in Winter

It’s almost August, and if you’ve lived in the Redlands for any length of time you will know what that means: the westerly winds are on their way!

preventing windburn in winter

Windburn can look and feel a lot like sunburn, leaving your skin red and sore.

The most common areas affected tend to be the face and lips, as they are more exposed to the elements. Combine cold, sun, wind and the dry heating indoors, and it’s no wonder so many of us end up with scaly, dry skin, which can be itchy and even painful.

Taking the Sting out of Winter Skin

Here are some tips to help you avoid windburn, and dry chapped skin, this winter:

  • Avoid long hot baths and showers.
  • Use a mild soap, or a soap free alternative.
  • After bathing, pat yourself dry with your towel, rather than rubbing.
  • Apply moisturiser immediately after showering.
  • Wear lip balm (like Jane Iredale’s LipDrink pictured below).
  • Keep your skin covered – which you’re probably doing anyway because it’s COLD! Scarves, mufflers, gloves and beanies are more than just fashion accessories – they can help with preventing windburn in winter.
  • Always wear sunscreen on exposed skin, before going outdoors.
  • One of Jaibe Beauty’s body treatments can also help moisturise and prep your skin for winter.

Jane Iredale Lip Balm

While we all love a bit of colour in our cheeks (as per last month’s tip on blushing beauty), a hectic red flush from windburn is never a good look.

Organic Body and Skin Care

Trivia Time: what is the largest organ in your body?

It also just happens to be the most visible one too – it’s your skin!

organic body and skin care products

Think of all that your skin does for you everyday:

  • It’s amazingly waterproof – the best rain coat ever made!
  • It acts as a barrier, protecting you from bacteria and other pollutants.
  • It stores water and fat.
  • It excretes waste products through perspiration.
  • It acts as insulation, to maintain your body temperature.
  • It produces hormones, and absorbs Vitamin D from the sun.
  • It acts as a shock absorber, protecting your bones, joints and internal organs.
  • If damaged, it has amazing healing properties.

So often when we talk about skin care, we are only referring to the face – but as you can see, looking after the skin on your whole body pays off as you skin is always doing so much for you.

Why Choose Organic Body and Skin Care?

What are you using to reward your skin? What chemicals are you applying regularly? Let’s face it, everything is a chemical – even organic body and skin care products like Waterlily.

However, as Waterlily creator and founder, Michelle Reeve says: “Everything is a chemical.  The question we need to be asking is who is creating them. My money is still on my favourite biochemist: Ms Mother Nature.”

So how is your skin feeling today?

If it feels less than its best, it’s time to give your skin the nurturing it deserves. That’s why I offer Body Exfoliation and other treatments to pamper your skin.

Call or SMS 0404 845 133 or fill out the contact form to discover the benefits of organic body and skin care for yourself. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Before and After Acne Treatment

This month I’m excited to share with you these “before and after acne treatment” pictures (with the permission of the client).

before and after acne treatment

If you have ever had bad skin, you will know how much it can affect your confidence – which is why I am really pleased with the results achieved.

This young man was suffering from painful cystic acne on his face, particularly in the chin area.

However he was fortunate, because his mum brought him to me for help!

Acne Treatment Regimen

Many acne treatments tend to be quite harsh on the skin, stripping it of natural oils; other times treatment consists of taking medication.

This is a much more natural alternative yet still with great results. I recommend the Waterlily Phyto Nutrient Spa Facial for congested, oily, and acne prone skin types, as it not only neutralises excess oil, but features a combination of decongesting and antibacterial botanicals to help rebalance, heal and strengthen even the most problematic of skin types.

Treatment consisted of a weekly facial over a four week period, in addition to a daily skin care routine using personally prescribed Waterlily products.

At the seven week point, the client returned for another facial, and this is when the “after” photo was taken.

Facials using Waterlily products

My client’s skin is continuing to improve, as he is diligently following his recommended skin care regimen each day.

If you scroll back to take another look at the before and after photos, you will not only seem how much calmer and clearer his skin is now – but also the difference in his confidence levels!

Don’t let problem skin make you miserable – please book an appointment so we can start you on the path to a clear complexion.

Getting Back into Routine

cleanse tone and moisturiseIt’s that time of year when we are all getting back into routine – and that includes the skin care we may have neglected over the holiday period.

I’ve got three words for you: cleanse tone and moisturise!

But what I find as a beauty therapist, is that many people don’t understand why these three things are so important.

Step 1: Cleanse

Even if you never wear makeup, cleansing every day is essential for a healthy complexion. Cleansing doesn’t just remove makeup and sunscreen, a good cleanser will also:

  • gently exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells, allowing the younger, healthier skin cells to come to the surface;
  • remove everyday dirt, grime, excess sweat and sebum;
  • clear the pores, reducing the bacteria and congestion that can lead to blackheads and break outs.

Step 2: Tone

Using a toner removes any traces of your cleanser, and causes your pores to close – not just to protect your skin, but improving your appearance at the same time.

Step 3: Moisturise

Moisturising helps to protect, hydrate and soften your skin. As your skin tissues are plumped up with moisture, fine lines are minimised.

There is a huge variety of products available to help you cleanse tone and moisturise regularly, but one of the benefits of seeing a beauty therapist is learning about the condition of your own skin, and which ingredients would be of most benefit for you.

So remember, for best results, don’t just wash your face – make sure that you cleanse tone and moisturise!

Jane Iredale Makeup Mitt

Jane Iredale makeup mitt If you live in Thornlands or the surrounding suburbs, your local stockist of Jane Iredale Makeup is Jaibe Beauty at Thornlands.

As a beautician and makeup artist, Jean at Jaibe Beauty carefully selected Jane Iredale products to use in her salon – as she knew that they don’t just help a woman to look good, but are actually good for her skin at the same time!

However there is no point in using skin enhancing, quality makeup products, if you are using a cocktail of chemicals (ie any old makeup remover) to cleanse your skin at the end of the day!

Jane Iredale Makeup Mitt Review

Recently, a client purchased the Jane Iredale Magic Mitt – and sent in the following rave review:

“Absolutely love the Jane Iredale makeup mitt!

Unlike a normal washcloth/face washer, the fabric is very soft making it smooth on the skin. It’s so very gentle, yet it effectively removes all your makeup – even stubborn eye makeup – at the end of the day.

It has done a much better job at getting into my pores than my hands alone do when washing my face, which is nice.

I’m super impressed with it.”

Review of the Marula Honey Facial

Waterlily Marula Honey Facial at Jaibe Beauty ThornlandsThis month, a client reviews their experience of the Marula Honey Facial from Waterlily, at Jaibe Beauty Thornlands.

“The Marula Honey facial is an hour of absolute bliss, but even better, it produced visible results!

I just couldn’t stop staring at my face in the mirror after my facial – I really was glowing! My skin felt so soft, and looked so dewy and fresh – it made me look years younger.

The Healing Properties of Honey

The facial features pure Australian organic honey, which is famed for its antioxidants, healing and moisturising properties.

My face, neck and decolletage were gently cleansed with a potion that smelled of lavender and geranium, before being exfoliated, toned, moisturised, and massaged. There was a sugar scrub to exfoliate my lips (sweet!), and a special serum applied to my delicate eye area.

Raw Cacao Face Masque

facial at Jaibe Beauty ThornlandsI especially loved the face masque, which both looked and smelled like chocolate cake mix! I guess that’s because raw cacao was one of the key ingredients.

While the masque was setting, I was offered a choice of either a hand, feet, or scalp massage. I’ve tried the hand and feet ones before at Jaibe Beauty, so this time I opted for the scalp massage, which was perfect for soothing away the tension from a busy week at work.

I highly recommend this latest Seasonal Botanical Spa Facial from Waterlily. A certain theme park used to have an ad jingle promising that you would “take a trip away from the everyday” – that’s exactly what I felt like after my treatment – and my face had that soft and relaxed look that you get from a holiday too!”

Skin Care at Home

skin care at homeAlthough clients often rave about the fabulous results after having a facial treatment at Jaibe Beauty, the reality is that for the best results, you really need to continue with regular skin care at home.

At Jaibe Beauty Jean uses the Waterlily range, because she is impressed with the quality of this Australian brand. As a skin care specialist, and with her intimate knowledge of her client’s skin, Jean can also prescribe the best products for use at home. This is a great service, particularly if you feel overwhelmed viewing the enormous range of skin care products at your local pharmacy!

Look Your Best!

Skin care at home should include daily rituals such as cleansing to remove dirt and makeup, and following up with toner and moisturiser suited to your skin type. And never, ever, go to bed with your makeup still on!

It is also important to exfoliate regularly to remove the dead skin cells, and reveal the healthy new skin beneath, if you want to look your best.

How is your Skin feeling today?

How is your skin feeling today? As the weather turns cooler, you may find your skin is reacting differently. Chances are, it’s feeling tight or dry, or just not looking its best.

So how is your skin feeling today?

If you’re in your 40’s, you may find the skin you know so well is no longer so familiar! As we approach menopause, it’s common for facial skin to become dryer.

Do you include moisturiser as part of your regular skincare routine? If you’ve never moisturised before, this is a great time to start!

The Benefits of Moisturising

  • You’ll increase the hydration levels in the skin.
  • It boosts healthy cell metabolism and function.
  • A good moisturiser, using natural oils, will help protect the skin’s delicate pH balance.
  • It can prevent pimples – yes really! If skin is dry, it will try to compensate by producing oil – leading to blocked pores and breakouts.

At Jaibe Beauty, Jean makes a point of asking her clients: how is your skin feeling today?

That way, she can tailor your treatment, especially to your skin’s needs.

It’s important to let Jean know if you have been noticing any changes in how your skin is feeling, so she can not only adapt your treatment, but also help you work out what may need to change in your regular skincare routine!
