Multi-Tasking Makeup Products

One of the things I love about the Jane Iredale makeup range – quite apart from the fact that it’s really good for your skin – is that so many of the products multi-task!

Multi-tasking makeup products

Instead of getting bogged down with applying moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation/BB cream in the morning – just use the Dream Tint, a tinted moisturiser that has the bonus of SPF 50! That’s one product to replace three sitting in your bathroom cabinet – and slashing the time you spend in front of the mirror each day.

Multi Tasking Minerals

Or take the mineral powder, which can be used as a concealer, foundation, and powder all in one.

  • Concealer – hide any blemishes, or dark skin under your eyes by simply mixing some of the loose powder with water, before applying to skin and carefully blending.
  • Foundation – Mix some of the powder with a moisturiser and make a cream foundation, and apply lightly with fingers or a sponge.
  • Powder – For best results, dust on with a Jane Iredale brush.

Gloss or Matte Lips?

Lip Fixation lip gloss duo gives you the ability to choose either a matte finish, or a gloss. For a matte look, brush on the colour – although it goes on glossy, it soon sets into a long wearing matte finish which can be worn alone.

To create a long lasting shine, simply apply a coat of the gloss on top.

There is also a combination eyeliner and brow brush; and the Just Kissed lip and cheek stain, which will bring a natural glow to your cheeks and lips.

Hydration with Staying Power!

A spritz of the Jane Iredale hydration spray is ideal to “set” your mineral powder, plus it is so cool and refreshing especially at this time of year. If you have oily skin, you can even use it is a moisturiser!

If you would like to try or find out more about these and other multi-tasking makeup products in the Jane Iredale range, make an appointment to pop in and visit my Thornlands beauty salon soon.

A Superfood Facial

We’ve all heard the buzz about “superfoods” like beetroot, kale, blueberries, spinach and pomegranate, and how beneficial they can be when we include them as part of a healthy diet.

But did you know that these superfoods are also incredibly effective when applied to your skin?!

This summer you can treat your skin to superfood therapy at our Thornlands Beauty Salon, thanks to the new seasonal facial from Waterlily, the Superfood Smoothie Spa Facial.

The Power of the Superfood Facial

The superfood ingredients have all been carefully chosen for being rich in antioxidants, which slow down the ageing process and prevent the free radicals which damage the skin.

And they are also prized for their anti-inflammatory properties – the ability to soften and soothe your skin.

Superfood Facial Benefits

Beetroot for example, is known to promote a wrinkle-free complexion, help remove dead cells, and to reduce age spots and dark circles in the under eye area.

Kale is not only a cleanser, it boosts collagen production, vital for repairing and plumping the tissues under your skin, giving it a more youthful appearance. High in Vitamin A, it also reduces swelling and scars.

Many members of the berry family fall into the superfood category – blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, goji berries. When applied to the skin, they balance the levels of oil, fight blemishes, and help even out skin tone.

So now you know – superfoods are great to eat, and great to use in skincare and facials!

Come and try it for yourself at Jaibe Beauty Thornlands this summer – I’d love to see you. Call or text me on 0404 845 133 for an appointment.

Classic Beauty Trends

Styles in beauty and makeup are constantly evolving and changing, which means that they can also date quickly.

classic beauty trends - red lips

Nothing screams the seventies like pale blue eyeshadow; while heavily glossed lips were very fashion forward in the eighties.

However, there are some classic beauty trends, that never seem to go out of style.

3 Classic Beauty Trends

1 – Natural Makeup

Why is it a classic beauty trend? Maybe because a natural makeup helps to smooth your complexion, evens out your skin tone, minimises any flaws, and gives you an attractive, healthy glow!

2 – A Red Lip

Classic Beauty Trends - Jane Iredale Pure Moist lipstick Gwen

Jane Iredale Pure Moist lipstick “Gwen”

Nothing takes your look from blah to hoorah, like a red lip – just ask Gwen Stefani!

So make sure you have a red that suits your complexion, in your lipstick wardrobe. If you have a cool skin tone, look for a bluey-red lipstick, while warmer skin tones suit a warmer red with a hint of orange.

3 – Smoky Eyes

Kohl eyeliner is the first product you should reach for when creating a smoky eye look, and you can’t get much more classic than that! Kohl has been used to enhance eyes since the time of the ancient Egyptians.

If you would like help with creating any of these classic beauty trends, or need a special occasion makeup (eg bridal or formal), let’s chat!

Preventing Windburn in Winter

It’s almost August, and if you’ve lived in the Redlands for any length of time you will know what that means: the westerly winds are on their way!

preventing windburn in winter

Windburn can look and feel a lot like sunburn, leaving your skin red and sore.

The most common areas affected tend to be the face and lips, as they are more exposed to the elements. Combine cold, sun, wind and the dry heating indoors, and it’s no wonder so many of us end up with scaly, dry skin, which can be itchy and even painful.

Taking the Sting out of Winter Skin

Here are some tips to help you avoid windburn, and dry chapped skin, this winter:

  • Avoid long hot baths and showers.
  • Use a mild soap, or a soap free alternative.
  • After bathing, pat yourself dry with your towel, rather than rubbing.
  • Apply moisturiser immediately after showering.
  • Wear lip balm (like Jane Iredale’s LipDrink pictured below).
  • Keep your skin covered – which you’re probably doing anyway because it’s COLD! Scarves, mufflers, gloves and beanies are more than just fashion accessories – they can help with preventing windburn in winter.
  • Always wear sunscreen on exposed skin, before going outdoors.
  • One of Jaibe Beauty’s body treatments can also help moisturise and prep your skin for winter.

Jane Iredale Lip Balm

While we all love a bit of colour in our cheeks (as per last month’s tip on blushing beauty), a hectic red flush from windburn is never a good look.

For all your winter skin care needs, call or SMS 0404 845 133 or fill out the contact form to book an appointment at Redlands beauty salon, Jaibe Beauty.

Blushing Beauty At Any Age

Blush, blusher, rouge, bronzer, cheek tint: whatever you want to call it, it has been one of the most popular cosmetics throughout the ages.

Just by using blusher, you look more radiant as it gives your face a soft, healthy glow.

Blushing Beauty All Day Long

If you want your blush to last all day long, here are some of the secrets I have learned as a professional makeup artist:

  1. Prepare the canvas of your face with primer and foundation. These will not only help to smooth your complexion, but also give your blusher something to cling to.
  2. Just add colour – whether you brush on a powder, or apply a cream with your finger tips, start with a smile (good advice anytime really!). Then apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks, starting from underneath the middle of your eye, out and upwards towards your temples and hairline.
  3. Blend, blend, blend!
  4. Apply translucent powder, to help fix the colour and foundation.
  5. You may like to apply a dusting of highlighter to your cheekbones if you would like to emphasise them.
  6. Finish with a hydrating spray which again, helps set your makeup for long lasting results.

A Healthy Glow

The whole point of using blusher is to create a healthy glow – and yet it can actually have an adverse affect on your wellbeing!

Back in Elizabethan England, for example, blushers consisted of toxic ingredients such as lead, mercury, and arsenic. Although blusher has come a long way since then, it still pays to be careful about which blush you choose.

That’s why I recommend and stock Jane Iredale makeup, as it provides long lasting results that are actually good for your skin. When it comes to blush, the range includes loose and pressed mineral powders, sticks and creams, bronzers and highlighters – something to suit you, no matter what your skin type or age.

I would love to help you become a “blushing beauty” – so call or SMS 0404 845 133 or fill out the contact form today.

Organic Body and Skin Care

Trivia Time: what is the largest organ in your body?

It also just happens to be the most visible one too – it’s your skin!

organic body and skin care products

Think of all that your skin does for you everyday:

  • It’s amazingly waterproof – the best rain coat ever made!
  • It acts as a barrier, protecting you from bacteria and other pollutants.
  • It stores water and fat.
  • It excretes waste products through perspiration.
  • It acts as insulation, to maintain your body temperature.
  • It produces hormones, and absorbs Vitamin D from the sun.
  • It acts as a shock absorber, protecting your bones, joints and internal organs.
  • If damaged, it has amazing healing properties.

So often when we talk about skin care, we are only referring to the face – but as you can see, looking after the skin on your whole body pays off as you skin is always doing so much for you.

Why Choose Organic Body and Skin Care?

What are you using to reward your skin? What chemicals are you applying regularly? Let’s face it, everything is a chemical – even organic body and skin care products like Waterlily.

However, as Waterlily creator and founder, Michelle Reeve says: “Everything is a chemical.  The question we need to be asking is who is creating them. My money is still on my favourite biochemist: Ms Mother Nature.”

So how is your skin feeling today?

If it feels less than its best, it’s time to give your skin the nurturing it deserves. That’s why I offer Body Exfoliation and other treatments to pamper your skin.

Call or SMS 0404 845 133 or fill out the contact form to discover the benefits of organic body and skin care for yourself. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Before and After Acne Treatment

This month I’m excited to share with you these “before and after acne treatment” pictures (with the permission of the client).

before and after acne treatment

If you have ever had bad skin, you will know how much it can affect your confidence – which is why I am really pleased with the results achieved.

This young man was suffering from painful cystic acne on his face, particularly in the chin area.

However he was fortunate, because his mum brought him to me for help!

Acne Treatment Regimen

Many acne treatments tend to be quite harsh on the skin, stripping it of natural oils; other times treatment consists of taking medication.

This is a much more natural alternative yet still with great results. I recommend the Waterlily Phyto Nutrient Spa Facial for congested, oily, and acne prone skin types, as it not only neutralises excess oil, but features a combination of decongesting and antibacterial botanicals to help rebalance, heal and strengthen even the most problematic of skin types.

Treatment consisted of a weekly facial over a four week period, in addition to a daily skin care routine using personally prescribed Waterlily products.

At the seven week point, the client returned for another facial, and this is when the “after” photo was taken.

Facials using Waterlily products

My client’s skin is continuing to improve, as he is diligently following his recommended skin care regimen each day.

If you scroll back to take another look at the before and after photos, you will not only seem how much calmer and clearer his skin is now – but also the difference in his confidence levels!

Don’t let problem skin make you miserable – please book an appointment so we can start you on the path to a clear complexion.

Let’s Talk Eyebrows …

To keep my skills as a makeup artist up to date, I often attend special training and have recently completed a two day workshop with the good people from Jane Iredale makeup.

let's talk eyebrows

One of the topics that came up, was what a difference well-groomed brows can make to our appearance.

Beautiful eyebrows not only frame your eyes, they give your whole face a lift, no matter what your age. No surgery required!

Shaping Eyebrows

Keeping your eyebrows looking their best will usually involve some form of hair removal.

If you’re not sure how to shape your eyebrows – I would be happy to help with a sculpting wax to get you started. Then, you can simply pluck when required to keep the same shape – or come back for a repeat wax if things get out of hand!

Colouring Eyebrows

There are many products available, specifically designed to perfect the look of your eyebrows – from brow pencil, to brow gels, and eyebrow kits. As a qualified makeup artist, I can show you how to use these products to make the most of your brows.

Jane Iredale Great Shape eyebrow kit

Alternatively, a brow tint (at only $10) lasts 3 to 4 weeks, so you don’t need to fuss with your brows every day.

Whether your eyebrows are bushy or sparse, I’d love to help. You can book on 0404 845 133 or simply complete the contact form.

Tips to Make Lipstick Stay on Longer

As a beauty therapist and makeup artist, one of the most common questions I am asked is how to make lipstick stay on longer.

make lipstick stay on longer

For best results, I suggest the following:

  • Exfoliate your Lips – If you’ve had a facial with me, you will know that I apply a sugar scrub to exfoliate your lips. This is something you can also do at home, before applying makeup, to help your lipstick to stay on longer.
  • Prime your Lips with Foundation – When you are applying foundation and/or powder, make sure you do your lips as well as the rest of your face.
  • Take your Time – Allow time between each step of applying your makeup, so it can settle. You might like to put on some perfume, or brush your hair, between each step of applying your lipstick, for a longer lasting effect.
  • Use a Lipliner – Particularly as we grow older, lipliner not only outlines our lips, it also stops our lipstick bleeding. Choose one that is the same colour as, or only slightly darker, than your lipstick – after outlining, use it to colour in your lips.
  • Choose your Lipstick Carefully – Matte lipsticks are generally the most long wearing – however for a gloss finish, have you tried the Jane Iredale Lip Fixation? Fabulously long lasting – first apply the lip stain, and then finish with the lip gloss. One client went to an awards night and was thrilled at how her lipstick lasted through drinks and dinner, and still looked shiny near the end of the night!

lip fixation

  • Apply your Lipstick –  Remember that it’s better to do a couple of thinner layers, than one thick one. Blot with tissue paper, and apply translucent powder over the top. Repeat.
  • Set your Makeup – I like to use a Jane Iredale hydration spray for the finishing touch.

Pommisst hydration spray

And now for a free bonus tip for clients of my Redlands beauty salon: apply a little highlighter to the skin just above your cupid’s bow – it may not make your lipstick stay on longer, but it will add real definition and wow factor!
